No one can say we don’t have a sense of humor! Heidi Clare and Lonesome Cowboy Wyoming Slim performed at the festival in 2009 while Lonesome Cowboy was handcuffed to Sheriff’s Posse member Jerry Dearborn, apparently the result of a little dustup with the Law.
High Mountain Hay Fever Festival Association (HMHF) is a non-profit organization run by an incredible group of volunteers that work year-round to make the festival happen. Over its first seven years the festival has generated $210,000 for the Custer County Medical Center and has attracted more than 20,000 fans.

An important measure of any festival’s success is how much performers like to play there and how much fans enjoy the event. We take great pride in treating both performers and attendees with the warm Wet Mountain Valley hospitality that we are known for. Many of our fans have been attending for years. Band leader Frank Ray of Cedar Hill had this to say about performing at HMHF “We had the pleasure of playing at the High Mountain Hay Fever Bluegrass Festival in Westcliffe, Colorado, which is nestled in a picturesque valley directly adjacent to the beautiful Sangre De Cristo range of the Great Rocky Mountains… the audience was definitely one of the best and most appreciative audiences I have ever played for, and the hospitality displayed by both the fans and the townspeople was second to none. I've seen few events that were so completely supported by the whole town.”

Leroy Troy was one of the big hits of the 2006 and 2009 festivals and brought a real taste of old time music to the event. "I must say that Westcliffe is the most scenic festival I have ever played! Thanks to the friendly staff and performers I never experienced a dull moment...A great atmosphere overall! It was a wonderful time.” And doesn’t he look a lot like our logo…?
High Mountain Hay Fever has its own bluegrass band consisting of talented local wildlife. One of the wildlife band members is featured on each year’s t-shirts.
