In partnership with Trust for Public Land, Colorado Conservation Trust, Colorado Cattlemen’s Agricultural Land Trust and local ranchers, more than 10,000 contiguous acres of working ranchland in the Wet Mountain Valley had been placed under conservation easements. This project, known as the Wet Mountain Valley Ranchland Preservation Project, includes six operating ranches in the northern end of the Valley.
| Why We Need You:
Like so many other western regions, the Wet Mountain Valley and San Isabel Region is facing rapid growth. As land values soar, land uses are changing. Some threaten to alter our native landscape forever. To meet this urgent challenge, we work with private landowners to find ways to help preserve their lands.

| Who We Are:
We are a group of volunteer citizens who, since 1995, have been working to protect the natural environment of the Wet Mountain Valley and surrounding San Isabel Region. A non-political and non-profit 501(c)3 corporation, we believe in preserving our rural community’s quality of life and its natural and historical heritage, while supporting responsible development. |
|   |
| What We Do:
Our work is dedicated to protecting our working lands and unique natural resources. Specifically, our focus is for the protection of prime, productive ranchlands, wildlife habitat, watersheds and wetlands, scenic vistas and open space, and forestlands and natural ecosystems. We assist landowners who wish to place their land in a conservation easement and/or donate land. We work to customize conservation easements according to mutually agreeable goals of permanently limited development. As a qualified conservation organization, the San Isabel Land Trust accepts stewardship responsibilities for conservation values of the land and safeguards the terms of the agreement through annual monitoring of the property. |
