The Wet Mountain Fire Protection District is a thirty-member, all-volunteer agency which provides structural fire supression, wildland fire supression, and rescue services for western Custer County. Servicing 584 square miles from 5 stations the Wet Mountain Fire Protection District has a long history of protecting the residents and visitors of the Wet Mountain Valley. Wet Mountain Fire currently provides some of the most sophisticated and aggressive rural fire protection in the state of Colorado.

| A fraternal organization of volunteer firefighters, members are held to high standards of training and participation. With members attaining the same Wildland and NFPA certification levels as those achieved by paid fire services found in major metropolitan areas like New York, Los Angeles, and Denver.
