San Isabel Land Protection Trust uses collaboration, science and innovation to keep our region forever wild and beautiful, with abundant wildlife, sustainable agriculture, flowing water and thriving rural communities.
San Isabel Land Protection Trust spearheads protection of land, water and wildlife in and beyond the Wet Mountain Valley. For 25 years we’ve been helping landowners secure conservation easements that permanently protect their land for public benefits, such as agricultural open space and scenic, natural habitat.
In Custer County, San Isabel holds 80 easements protecting 27,746 acres. Our work safeguards our natural bounty – the scenic vistas and wildlife we enjoy from our homes, and the ranching community we all revel in – by helping landowners limit rampant development that risks our precious water resources, open space and rural character.
San Isabel recognizes that voluntary conservation with a wide array of private and public partners is key to sustaining our vibrant landscape and western lifestyle for perpetuity. Our focus includes developing and sharing effective solutions to resource challenges; encouraging constructive, collaborative efforts; fostering entrepreneurial approaches where the environment and economics thrive together; and focusing on long-term resilience and health for people and nature.
