“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”
At Sangre de Cristo Volunteers for Community, we believe that change is the sum of minor triumphs and defeats. Change is one can of food delivered to a hungry person, a book read or lesson taught to a child, multiplied by hundreds. It is a garden in bloom, a park or roadside left a bit cleaner. It is a gift under the Christmas tree, a scarf on a cold night. It is a smiling face who, for a few hours, lifts the veil of loneliness and isolation from a senior citizen. It is a community left slightly better today than it was yesterday, with a promise of things being a bit better tomorrow. Sangre de Cristo Volunteers for Community was formed around this simple idea: Community members are in the best position to identify the needs of their towns. If we can address any of those needs, if we can nurture a spirit of volunteerism among our neighbors, if we can help make things a bit better, we can be agents for positive change.
